Germany’s somewhat controversial wedding of the year rolled out in Hanover on July 8, 2017, with fanfares, church bells, a coach ride and a major turnout of young royals.
A solemn religious ceremony between Prince Ernst-August Jr. and Ekaterina Malysheva took place in the Market Church before 600 guests and a crowd of several thousand, many in traditional costume, gathered outside.

The couple wed in a civil service on July 6, departing the historic church in a red silk-lined carriage and setting off for the first of two celebrations: a luncheon at historicHerrenhauser Gardensand an evening event atMarienburg Castle.

The groom’s father,Prince Ernst-August, previously announced hisopposition to the marriageand did not attend. However, the groom’s mother, Chantal Hochuli, went to the ceremony, marking the first time a Hanoverian prince married in the church in 66 years.

Caroline’s daughter, Princess Alexandra of Hanover, was seen gathering up the train of the bridal gown outside the church at noon. Her sister,Charlotte Casiraghi, protected herself from the sun with a broad-brimmed straw hat and was also in the wedding party.

Also prominent in the wedding party was Ernst-August Jr.’s stepbrother Andrea Casiraghi and his wife, Tatiana Santo Domingo, who carried their children Sasha and India into the church service. Pierre Casiraghi andhis wife Beatrice Borromeo(who sported a beige turban) also traveled to Hanover to participate in the occasion.
