A Florida man was sentenced this month to 50 years in state prison for murdering his teenage girlfriend during an argument inside a Jacksonville home, authorities said.

Isaiah Greene, 19, was convicted in August in the 2022 killing of 18-year-old Gabrielle Bolton, the Office of the State Attorney for Florida’s Fourth Circuit announced in an Oct. 6press release.

Greene told investigators that the attack happened on Sept. 19, 2022, after an argument between the couple escalated while Bolton was in the bathroom, per the release. He admitted to grabbing a metal object and repeatedly hitting her with it before dragging Bolton’s body from the bathroom to the bedroom and covering her.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found Bolton’s body wrapped in a shower curtain and towel with “obvious” signs of trauma to her head, according to the state attorney’s office.

By that time, Greene had fled the scene, but his mother was there. Greene’s mother told investigators her son had called her earlier that morning saying he was upset with Bolton and that “I didn’t mean to do it,” the release states.

Greene was found a short time later at a different location and arrested after confessing to the murder during questioning. Greene also told detectives that he and Bolton had been dating for about a year and that he had been physically and mentally abusive to her.

According toWJXT,Bolton’s stepfather, Allen Nicholson, said at a vigil last year that his stepdaughter had plans to join the military and hoped to one day become a district attorney.

Bolton’s mother told WJXT at the time that her daughter “wasn’t shy at all. If she had something to say. She lets you know whether it be good, bad or otherwise.”

“She was very strong-willed. Very intelligent,” the grieving mother added.
