Kevin Baconisn’t keen on the idea of aFootloosesequel.

Ahead of the classic dance drama’s 40th anniversary, the actor, 65, answered a fan question about a potential follow-up movie on the latest episode of hisSix Degrees with Kevin Baconpodcast.

Bacon initially responded, “Footloose 2has been done,” referring tothe 2011 remakethat starredKenny Wormald,Julianne Hough,Dennis Quaid,Andie MacDowellandMiles Teller.

SixDegrees.org’s Executive Director Stacy Huston pointed out that a sequel might be more like, “You are nowJohn Lithgow[’s character] … not you’re banning dancing, but like, [your character Ren is] older, you’ve raised your own [family], your kids are in high school … I feel like that’s the sequel. Like, [the main character is] your son.”

“Never say never, [but] I think it would be a disaster,” Bacon joked.

Footloosefollows Bacon’s teen character Ren McCormack, who moves from Chicago to a small southwestern town with his mother Ethel (Frances Lee McCain). He falls in love with Ariel Moore (Lori Singer), the rebellious daughter of Reverend Shaw Moore (Lithgow, 78) and his wife Vi (Dianne Wiest).

Ren, Ariel, Ariel’s friend Rusty (Sarah Jessica Parker), Ren’s new friend Willard (the lateChris Penn) and more soon band together to try and overturn Rev. Moore’s ban on dancing.

The film became a sensation, helping to launch Bacon’s career and the accompanyingKenny Logginssong “Footloose” to become an earworm lasting for four decades and counting.

But the movie’s ending — a.k.a. the cast’s musical number after Ren’s iconic line, “Let’s dance!” — was almost completely different, according to Bacon.

“I run into the place, I say, ‘Let’s dance!’ and there’s like a moment of dancing, and then right away, it goes into slow motion,” he toldEntertainment Weeklyin August 2022. “There’s glitter falling from the sky and everyone is just moving in slow motion. This was the original ending.”

“The studio tested the movie, and they were like, ‘This doesn’t work at all,’ " Bacon added. “Everyone wants to get up and dance at the end of this movie.”

Despite his hesitance about a sequel today, Bacon still has the moves — as does his wifeKyra Sedgwick!

“I don’t remember this being part of the original #Footloose choreography,” Bacon wrote in the caption, “but figured we’d give it a spin.”

The move may have been new to Bacon, but he and Sedgwick, 58, were seemingly able to accomplish it with ease, even high-fiving one another after they finished.
