Hawkeye‘s Fifth Episode Had Everything Marvel Fans Want

Last workweek ’s rooftop battlebetween Clint Barton ( Jeremy Renner ) , Kate Bishop ( Hailee Steinfeld),Yelena Belova(Florence Pugh ) and Maya Lopez ( Alaqua Cox ) put Hawkeye off in a new instruction . Clint realized everything had get way out of control and decided tostop teaming up with Kate . Yelena and Maya were both closer than ever to getting the the great unwashed they ’ve been trying to kill , which just happen to be the same soul . That , plus a few excellent surprise , made for a whole installment of Hawkeye .

Hawkeye episode 5 , entitle “ Ronin , ” starts off in the past . As has been customary this year , if there ’s a crucial adult female who needs an origin floor , we see it before the title , andsuch was the case this episode with Yelena . Now , we know you ’re thinking “ Was n’t her origin in Black Widow , now available on Disney+ ? ” Yes . But that movie show you Yelena before Thanos , oppose with her sister , and then after Thanos , mourn at her grave . Hawkeye exhibit that in between , Yelena had been allot with the fallout of that movie , running around the world release Black Widows from their mental imprisonment . On one such mission in 2018 , Yelena goes into the bathroom , and exits five class later . Yup , Thanos got her . It was our good look yet at what the Blip was like for someone who was dusted . ( WandaVisiondealt with this toobut not as compactly ) . She exits the bathroom like it was one 2nd but everything has changed . Her first instinct is to find Natasha but we all know Yelena ’s only backbecause of her sister ’s sacrifice .

Back in New York Kate is breast feeding combat injury from the battle with Maya and Yelena , and goes home to find her female parent Eleanor ( Vera Farmiga ) worried queasy . momma is save to find out that Clint protected Kate and direct her home , a sign of the zodiac that he listened to her pleas . The two apportion a sweet mother - daughter heart to tenderness where Kate starts to follow to terms with the actualization she might not become an Avenger . Eleanor explains that just because she may not achieve her dream one way , does n’t mean it wo n’t be another way . The two open up so full that Kate sense safe to mention to Eleanor that she and Clint have some some incriminating evidence against her fiancé , Jack ( Tony Dalton ) .

Kate guide back to her old apartment for the first time since the Track Suit Mafia cauterize it all to hell and finds a surprise waiting for her : Yelena . Yelena explains she just wants to talk and could have killed Kate when she walked in the threshold if that ’s she wanted . The conversation goes everywhere , from jokes about instantaneous mackintosh and cheese to testimonial for Yelena ’s first sentence in New York City ( she bring up the “ new and improved Statue of Liberty , ” which is most potential aSpider - Man No Way Homereference ) and finally change state to Clint . Yelena break she was hired to pop him and she ca n’t believe Kate trust in him so much . She explains how much blood is on his work force and that no Heron should have that kind of luggage . Kate counters with the things Clint has been enjoin her , that helping people has dread consequences , and the whole thing ends up being a solid picayune dissection of ethical motive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe . It ’s a great conniption thanks in part to first-class talks , chemistry between the role player , and Florence Pugh ’s ability to blow almost everyone off the screen with her unmistakable personal magnetism and charm . Yelena is well on her means to becoming a top tier MCU favorite , if she is n’t already .

Meanwhile Clint does not go back to Kate ’s auntie ’s position , thinking he ’s through with her , and instead go bad to Grills ’ ( Clayton English ) place , the LARPer from previous episode . After getting some much needed rest ( and an beguiling prickteaser about new costumes for him and Kate ) Clint decide he has to end this . He stir up up , croak to the berth the Avengers first assembled in 2012 , and talks to Natasha . Stone and justify to her for what he ’s about to do . He ’s going to put the Ronin costume on one more clip , but not before babble out to his wife ( Linda Cardellini ) who tell him she trusts him whatever he does . ( Note : the use of the Endgame music here really act to bring in you back to that emotional lieu from the motion picture . A very nice touch ) .

But before the episode can bring the Ronin back , Kate needs to get back into the fight . And that happens when she visit that her mom trusted her about Jack and calls the constabulary on him ( though , for some reason , we did n’t necessarily confide this ) and backwash up to see her first bow her mammy bought her . She realizes being a poor boy is all she ’s ever wanted , and a few twelve voice messages to Clint by and by , she ’s back on the case .

to fend off any confrontation with “ the prominent guy ” Clint knows he has to settle things with Maya . He sets up the meet and take out all of her goons in a very Batman begin style . The two engagement and Clint seems to egress victorious , revealing himself as the valet who killed her father , Ronin . But he ’s not there to kill Maya . He ’s there to explain to her that he killed her dad because Maya ’s boss tip him off and wanted her dad dead . He also explain that she and he are the same . They ’re artillery other multitude use and manipulate . This scene , like the Kate and Yelena vista earlier , is what this episode and the entire show is all about . Like minded citizenry , from paired sides of a scrap , discourse and figure out their intention . A purpose that , for Clint , almost cease as Maya turn things on him , but Kate comes out of nowhere to save him .

Maya leaves , and angry and in denial about the Ronin ’s Revelation , still figure that the pieces tally . peculiarly when she remembers her good friend Kazi ( Fra Fee ) , who was father ’s number two , was n’t there the daytime he die . It seems maybe her cryptical uncle did have her dad kill by Ronin , and it ’s not Ronin she should be go after .

Kate ’s rescue of Clint works and the duo get away . They head back to Grills ’ place for a petty breakfast when Kate gets a text . It ’s Yelena , who tells Kate that the person who hired her to vote down Clint … is Kate ’s mom . ( Which is odd because we see Valentina ( Julia Louis Dreyfus ) do it in Black Widow . So does Valentina work for Eleanor ? Hmmm ) . As proof she get off a photo of Eleanor and the openhanded revelation . Literally . It’sKingpin , played by Vincent D’Onofrio ofNetflix ’s Daredevil . “ That ’s the bozo I ’ve been interest about , ” says Clint .

The 5th installment of Hawkeye basically had everything Marvel fan want in a Marvel show . It filled in some large MCU gaps with the Yelena Blip narrative , it showcased friends and foes choke toe to toe not just with combat , but speech that heighten our discernment of who they are and what they do . Then there was even a little surprise at the end , though it was one many fans believe was coming . It all leads up to the final episode of the show next week , and if there ’s any question as to who will be looming large over that , the final title card should earn it up .

Yup . Kingpin . From Daredevil . Mere days afterMarvel Studios President of the United States Kevin Feige saidhis Daredevil , play by Charlie Cox , would be back . None of that has anything to do with Clint , Kate , Yelena , Jack , Eleanor , Maya or the remainder . Or so we think . There ’s a lot to clear up next week .
