The verdict is in for the Oracle vs. Google trial on whether Java was used improperly in the developing of Android . The answer ? Yes , sort of .
The panel rule that Oracle has proven that Google ’s admitted habit of Java was contravene on Oracle ’s API . Specific dowery of code were decree as infringing Oracle ’s right of first publication or not , but the conclusion states that the overall structure and sequence of Java had been infringed . There was no decision on whether it fell under fair use . Google ’s already moved for a mistrial on the ground that the verdict could not include fond response .
The Java lawsuitstretches back to 2010 , after Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems . Over sentence , itbecame pretty clearthat yes , Google had probably used Java without go through all of the proper motions . Google ’s stay firm , tell thatit ’s done nothing wrong , but there ’s a lot of evidence to the contrary , like aninternal memo from Andy Rubinstating , “ My proposition is that we take a permit . ”

That all sound pretty grim for Google . But today ’s ruling actually does n’t look too bad from Mountain View ’s side of the aisle . While infringements were feel , Judge Alsup also ruled that liabilities were limit to nine lines of computer code , and flip away Oracle ’s wider claims on profits arrive at from Android ’s manipulation of Java .
And here ’s the other thing : Android is not in any serious peril here . There will probably be many more months of trials and entreaty and transactions before we get down to anything final , and even then it will probably be a large liquidation . [ Twitter ]
