In an consultation withBuzzFeed , Evangeline Lilly spill a lot about the process that bring her to Ant - Man , and disclose that she , like a lot of us , had 2d thoughts about the project when Edgar Wrightabruptly left . She ended up reassured .
It ’s a bewitching story that Lilly lay out . She was first adamantly against asterisk in a comic ledger picture , but was lured in by the prospect of working with Paul Rudd and the gamey lineament of the Marvel films , which she had n’t watched until she was approached about Ant - Man . But the kicker was how well-chosen she was with Edgar Wright , so , when Wright leave , she was very worried that she was about to walk into a project screen with studio interference with the managing director ’s visual sense :
[ I was ] shocked . And sphacelate , at first . Actually , I would n’t say mortified . You have a go at it , a creative projection is a move object . You never terminate up where you start up . But we all , I think , signed on very sky-high with Edgar . We were mad to make for with Edgar . We were fans of Edgar . So when the split happened , I was in the fortunate office where I had not signed my contract bridge yet . So I had the option to walk aside , and I almost did . Because I thought , Well , if it ’s because Marvel are big bullies , and they just want a puppet and not someone with a imaginativeness , I ’m not concerned in being in this moving picture . Which is what I was afraid of .

In her mind , she take care what the problem were with the original hand and say that it merely was n’t a Marvel film :
“ I saw with my own eyes that Marvel had just pull the handwriting into their world , ” she says . “ I intend , they ’ve established a cosmos , and everyone has come to expect a sealed aesthetic [ and ] a sure feel for Marvel films . And what Edgar was creating was much more in the Edgar Wright camp of film . They were very different . And I experience like , if [ Marvel ] had created Edgar ’s unbelievable vision — which would have been , like , classic comic Scripture — it would have been such a debauch to film [ and ] it would have been so much fun to watch . [ But ] it would n’t have fit in the Marvel Universe . It would have stick out like a mad quarter round , no matter how unspoiled it was . It just would have take you away from this cohesive universe they ’re trying to make . And therefore it ruin the suspend mental rejection that they ’ve built . ”
After a successful confluence with Wright ’s switch , Peyton Reed ( Bring It On , Down With Love ) , Lilly says , “ I sign on on and I never looked back . ”

The interrogative that remain is just how wrong Wright ’s sight could have been . Marvel ’s built the whole universe on making many different kinds of moving picture and director fit into the whole . And this year , the consensus has been that if Guardians of the Galaxy works , anything can . We ’re just move to have to try it when we in reality see it .
