Why does n’t Starfleet treat Kirk like a god , now that alternate future Spock has told them how many prison term his next ego will save the planet ? What ’s up with Spock and Uhura ? Not to bring up , with Kirk and Spock ? We spoke with writer Damon Lindelof and Spock himself , Zachary Quinto , to regain the response to our Trek questions .
Does n’t everyone in this flick know that Spock traveled back in time from an alternate future where Kirk is the Greatest Hero in the Universe and has saved the Universe like a 1,000 times now ? And wo n’t that mean that they ’re going to treat the Chris Pine Kirk otherwise ?
Damon Lindelof : I love clock time travel questions . If you know that , you will in all probability revalue this pic on a slightly unlike level than somebody who does n’t know that . But you do n’t need to know that in decree to enjoy this moving picture . We need to , basically , jump off a bridge based on all the clock time locomotion conversations we had in putting the first moving picture together . I think that book issues is an all - encompassing mode of saying we were tremendously indolent in getting together . I think that JJ , who has like nine different tv set show and a whole movie company that he ’s running . He directed Super 8 , so he was n’t really available creatively to Bob and Alex and I. They were off doing something . I was end up up the last two seasons of Lost and doing Prometheus . So there was this sort of lucky catamenia when all of us were together , just like we were in the first motion-picture show . We felt like that ’s the elbow room it has to mold , we could n’t work in stages . We all have to get into a elbow room together and figure out what Trek 2 is go to be . We had lecture about it a little fleck while we were working on Trek 1 . But I do n’t call back that period really presented itself to us until about a year and a half had gone by after the release of the first one . So we were play from behind .
Red Matter , Black Holes , the technology to teleport someone through warp , these were all Trek skill you work on in the first motion-picture show , what is some of the Trek science you will be playing around with in this movie ?
I do n’t need to give away too much in term of what surprise the movie has to extend . But I do think what ’s cool about Trek is it ’s not scifi fantasy . We view it as hardcore scifi . So you require there to be some form of technical explanation behind everything . And one of the things that J.J. has been really interested in is to explicate and show how the Enterprise works . We will be research subdivision of the ship , the Enterprise , that we ’ve never seen before . And I call up that will be really cool .
Spock ’s relationship with Uhura started during a really crazy clock time … after the genocide of your multitude , how does that interchange your relationship in the motion picture ?
Zachary Quinto : They ’re really seek to understand each other , deepen their connection and grow their relationship . And I think that this is a challenging thing because they come from such unlike backgrounds and they ’re such unlike individuals . In this movie you seem them working through that . You see the way in which they misunderstand and miscommunicate , and you see the ways in which they understand and then come back together . You get the sense , I got the sensation at least while I was work on it , that we were create a dynamic and expand a family relationship that has a believable base and hopefully it will continue to acquire in that room .
Where do we find Spock and Kirk ’s kinship when this pic picks up ?
Again , I mean we ’re all working to try and find that good sense of kindred connection . Because we ’re all such a divers case of reference . I think everyone is working to understand . And you do n’t get more opposite than Kirk and Spock . I guess in this film , Kirk really needs to take what it means to be a leader , not just sitting in the Captain ’s hot seat . And Benjamin Spock needs to learn what it have in mind to be a friend and be accountable to citizenry he care about .
Are they buddies now ? Do they hang out now ?
When we first drop in on the moving-picture show Spock and Uhura and Sulu are on one side of a missionary work and Kirk and Bones are on another side of the same commission . We ’re all sort of scramble to make unnecessary the this species and it does n’t go according to plan , I ’ll just say that .
