On its face , it looks like yesterday ’s Clone Wars episode occupy the gentle way out . After set up a very speculative proxy war and having the Onderon rebels practice terrorist tact , the rebellion gets out with a light martyrdom , and the Jedi once again work as cat’s-paw of the Republic . But none of it could happened if Anakin had n’t broken rank with the Jedi to rent in a very fly-by-night — and highly illegal — arms deal . Spoilers ahead .
Now that King Dendup is on the insurrectionist ’ side , he has begun rallying the citizens of Iziz through holographic message , prompt them to attack the Separatist droids . Saw wants to continue the fight in Iziz , strike the usurper King Rash where he lives , but Steela wants to head off civilian casualties by take the fighting to the outskirt . Dendup , impressed , straight off appoints Steela commander of the Onderon forces . see is less than pleased , but General Tandin respectfully yields ; after all , he did spend the last several workweek keeping Dendup locked away .
General Kalani sends his droid army to the rebel summer camp , and the Reb , many of them riding dalgos and firedrake - birds , fend the droids off . But Kalani has an ace up his mechanically skillful arm : a Separatist gun ships surrounded by buckler so herculean none of the rebel weapons can thrust it . With the rebel defeat looking certain , Ahsoka get hold of Obi - Wan and Anakin , begging them for help . Obi - Wan tell her that the Jedi Council wo n’t concur to send any more reward , and enjoin her to evacuate . But Anakin comes up with a way to help the rebels quiet : by employing the pirate Hondo Ohnaka . Anakin purchases several crates of rocket launchers from Hondo and has them redeem to the rebels .
The rebels are in poor spirits , but everyone is on friendly terms now . encounter is impressed with Steela ’s leaders , and while Lux insists that the Jedi could be doing more to help , Steela is thankful for all Ahsoka has done for them . Just in sentence , Hondo appear with the rocket rocket launcher , then hightail it out of war outer space . The projectile launchers do the caper , but after Saw fly the net gun ship , Steela is knocked off a nearby cartridge clip . Ahsoka adjudicate to Force - lift her to safety , but she ’s film in the back , breaking her density and allow Steela fall to her death . The Johnny never even get to King Rash ; Kalani executes him once Count Dooku gives the order to retreat .
Honestly , I was pissed when Steela was kill off . This was our great sacrifice ? If the greatest cataclysm suffered by the Onderon citizenry is that they suffer their superior general , they obtain off absurdly easy . Where are the lingering terrorists ? Where are the civilian casualties ? When Lux , who has been appointed senator of Onderon , says that the Jedi ’s fearlessness has inspired him to join Onderon to the Republic , it all seems too straight . Another unpointed victory in this sham of a war .
But I ca n’t aid but wonder if the whole point of the Onderon electric arc is that Anakin beat away with something big . He argued for this proxy war when the Jedi Council was against it . He made a shady arms mess ( with the understood blessing of Obi - Wan ) that won the struggle . For Anakin , triumph is n’t about travel along the rules of war ; it ’s about follow his own instincts . But the path the Dark Side is pave with good intention .
Ahsoka , on the other hand , is broody . Even as Lux promise to return Onderon to the Republic and praise the bravery of the Jedi , she ’s recollect of the lifetime lost to the war between the Separatists and the Republic . There ’s a gap between Master and Padawan , one I hope we ’ll see widen during the ease of the time of year .
