Our modern world is literally built on concrete . This cheap , strong fabric is everywhere — skyscrapers , bridges , highways , burrow — and it ’s arduous to imagine what our cities would search like without it . But concrete has a weak billet , andclimate change could make it even forged .
Concrete has been around since ancient times , but the formula we use now is a relatively modern design . The carbonation will be uncollectible in spicy , moderately humid cities .
It ’s not all tough news , the Globe note , because we can take step to make concrete building last longer ( and also take stair cut carbon emissions but that ’s a whole other can of worms ) . We can make the concrete around rebar thicker , so it takes longer for atomic number 6 dioxide to reach the blade . Or cover the blade in epoxy resin . Or spray acrylic on the concrete .
