perhaps we were untimely about British Telecom the other day whenwe impliedthat they were a rather stodgy company ( at least they were when we dwell in England ) . Their research group is working on a way for cellular telephone to connect to special interactive toys that could be prompt , via text subject matter , to do specific thing :
The researchers say these prototypes will “ make a more natural and tangible mood of communicating for adults and baby , which will encourage more inventive text messaging ” . The interactional toy are tune in to their owner ’ fluid speech sound so that , whenever an worked up graphic symbol ( or emoticon ) is sent , the miniature displays the emotion that has been communicated . For model , if a well-chosen symbol was sent to a toy dog click it would come to life and start barking . Alternatively a love subject matter could be sent to a teddy bear , which would trigger its heart to glow and become warm to the touch . The theme is that a receiver of the emoticon can sense the actual meaning of the message that has been sent from their acquaintance or partner . In this way of life it ’s hoped the engineering science could be applied to make the messaging experience more playfulness and tangible .
Creepy ? Yes , most sure . But stodgy ? No , by all odds not stodgy . Guess we underestimated you , BT .
