Holy hell , it ’s one of those rarified Walking Dead sequence where things do n’t burst forth , and people do n’t get shoot at or eaten , but rather character speak to each other , and poop can still be see to have happened ! This week ’s instalment was all about relationships and history between characters , and it was still fairly respectable — primarily because “ I Ai n’t a Judas ” altered and updated these relationship , rather of just telling us stuff and nonsense we already love ( mostly ) . And eldritch of all , it actually made Andrea kind of compelling ! Madness !
The Governor is assail up somewhat much everyone in Woodbury who can hold a gunman , even teens ( “ adolescence is a 20th century concept ” , he whiz ) , in preparation for his balls - out assault on the prison . eventually realize that the Governor might not be the large-hearted dictator he ’s always presented himself as being , the townspeople — like the female parent of a 14 - year - erstwhile asthmatic who does n’t require her son to be in an U. S. Army — wrick to Andrea to help them with the Guv . It does n’t work , but it does compound Andrea ’s tactile sensation of responsibility for the inexperienced person of Woodbury , especially since no one else has any .
As the prison house , everyone is still argue whether they should stay or whether they should go . Glenn is all for staying , in the first place since he ’s lusting for revenge , but the group does n’t decide to stay as much as they just do n’t determine . Carl tell Rick that he should stop being the team ’s loss leader , which seems to make Rick finally take off his crazypants ( or at least put them in the dirty clothes halter , since he ’s pretty collected and non - hallucinatory in this episode , for which I am extremely thankful ) .
Meanwhile , Merle is fitting in amazingly well . He has bonding time with Herschel over lose limbs where he does n’t bitter manoeuvre out that he had to perform his own amputation ; he even gives a non - excuse to Michonne for adjudicate to kill her on the Governor ’s order , which is like a box seat of candy and a corsage of efflorescence from regular people .
The focussing of the installment is on Andrea , who is the only character describe between the prison and Woodbury . When she encounter the Governor gear up for war , she decide to escape to utter to Rick and her old post - apocalyptic pals and see if she can debar the coming bloodshed . With Milton ’s help , she gets a Decoy zombi , a.k.a . a zombie with its coat of arms chop off and its jaw murder , Michonne - dash ( the zombi does not come pre - Decoyed , evidently , which think of Milton pretty much has to sit on it while Andrea taxicab and stomps away ) .
Andrea make it to the prison . Now , whether she ’s expect a warm reunion with Rick and the others because she ’s a moron , or because she ’s one of the few characters on The Walking Dead with any sense of human beings leave ( like , why would n’t they be happy to see their old brother Andrea ? ) , but a quick welcome is not what Andrea receive . Once she ’s past the gate , Rick push her hard against the rampart and dab her down ; the rest of the radical keep their guns trained on her . Once inside the prison proper , the group radiate terse , counter silence at her while she tries to explain her dotty theory that maybe Woodbury and prison house should n’t go to warfare and needlessly pour down a gang of the great unwashed who were totally innocent both of the Governor ’s bullshit and Rick ’s foray .
Andrea ’s pleas return on deaf spike , as everyone in the prison house ( except maybe Herschel ) wants to kill the Governor , regardless of the jeopardy . As usual , I do n’t know what TWD want me to think . Are we supposed to be shocked like Andrea , and how hard and stale Rick and her former brother have become ? ( There ’s a heavy moment where Andrea looks at The Soulless Killing Machine Known as Carl , and actually puff . ) Are we supposed to steady down with Rick , and his desire for vengeance over the survival of his mathematical group ? Are we supposed to see Rick ’s refusal to hold on hostilities as matching the Governor , since they ’re both acting the exact same mode ? ( This is where I ’m leaning , obviously ) .
This is n’t a uncollectible problem — hell , this examination of what it means to be human and humane once beau monde has entirely offend down is what ’s most fascinating about TWD – - but I still do n’t know if TWD is elevate these questions on design , or if they ’re still trying to present Rick as a hero and just neglect .
Anyways , Andrea catches up on all the gossip ( i.e. , who ’s dead ) , meets Lil ’ Ass - kicker , and has a heart - to - sum with Carol who nonchalantly enquire her to fuck the Governor and then kill him while he ’s in a sex comatoseness . Andrea think this is entirely mad , and I detest it when the show make me match with Andrea . Carol ’s sure enough gotten more pragmatic since season 1 , but I did n’t conceive that she ’d catch to the gunpoint where she ’d need a friend ( ? ) to murder a dude in insensate blood just to protect her band of the great unwashed over another mathematical group of people . Again , are we supposed to think Carol ’s theme is a salutary one , if only because Rick and his group are technically the protagonists , and we want them to survive over another group ? Or are we supposed to be as horrified as Andrea is at Carol ’s suggestion ?
Either way , Andrea takes this is a mark to go back to Woodbury . Rick and pals are — well , I would n’t go as far as to say they ’re kind to her — but they are polite , at least , giving her a accelerator and a car , although no one is pitiful to see her go .
I ’m really beaming Andrea pick out Woodbury , because it makes sense , and for her to select otherwise would just be stinking penning . Andrea has n’t check the prison grouping in quite a while — probably almost as long as she was with them , maybe more — and when she ascertain them , they treat her like an outsider . See it from her perspective : Both Woodbury and the prison are full of assholes deflect on destroy each other . If those are Andrea ’s two option , why would n’t she pick the one where someone ’s really squeamish to her , and has hot pee ?
Meanwhile , someone has beaten Andrea back to Woodbury — Tyrese and his group , who were so impolitely scream at by Rick in full Captain Crazypants mode two weeks ago . The Governor brings them into Woodbury with assailable arms , and does n’t even require them to facilitate in his little war — Tyrese has to insist , say he want to earn his keep , because Tyrese is a good guy , and because in Tyrese ’s limited experience with both Rick and the Governor , Rick is in spades the evil psychopath of the two .
Then Andrea repay to Woodbury , she has sexy sex with the Governor , and then play a knife over to the slumber Guv , follow Carol ’s ridiculous asking . I was tense — not because I thought for a second that the Governor was at all in danger , but because I was somewhat sure he was going to mess up Andrea ’s headspring off . Which I was surprised to discover I ’d be pitiful about . Andrea is still preachy and awful , but at the instant she and Tyrese are the only characters who seem to give a shit about being human .
I get it on it seems like most of my recaps are mostly criticism , and this is because they are , and that ’s because The walk Dead is a deeply blemished show . But thanks to the low bar it ’s been banging into for most of its existence , whenever TWD manages to get up above and give us something obligate other than the action , I ’m somewhat slaked , and I was pretty satisfied with “ I Ai n’t a Judas . ” But I still wo n’t mind when the Governor loads up another obstetrical delivery truck for zombies for the prison house , either .
Assorted Musings :
• The Governor ’s ceaseless bullshitting of Andrea is really , really undersell his menace . Last week he was gunning down everything he could , last night he ’s evasively lying to Andrea that the prison house folk pip first . expect , if you require to be an evil badass , do n’t lie to your girlfriend like you ’re on an sequence of Two and a Half Men , all right ? Just be malign .
• There ’s a tense bit where Carl and Maggie see Andrea approach the prison but do n’t recognize her , and it seems like Maggie might inject her think she ’s one of the Governor ’s troops . This , by the way , would have been a HILARIOUS manner for Andrea to go .
• Zombie Maiming of the Week : Andrea stamp her Decoy Zombie ’s lip into a cautiously placed rock-and-roll to destroy its jaw . Even thinking about that picture makes my teeth hurt .
• There ’s a great import when Rick and everyone at the prison is giving Andrea shit , and she view Merle holding his automatic weapon in his one hand , and she calls them out on their bullshit . I ’m not straight quoting : “ Really ? The guy who beat Glenn to a pulp magazine and only left Woodbury because he got break in a lie gets to be Captain AK-47 , while I ’m getting rake over the coal ? ” It ’s a with child question , and TWD has no answers .
• The Governor ’s cross - molded eye wound looks pretty damned badass . Also , he finally puts on the traditional pirate optic - patch this episode .
• Milton tells the Governor about Andrea ’s plan , and the Governor lease her go . I ’d love to say this is another facet of the Guv ’s complex personality , but he ’s still jolly light on personality , so it ’s just another arbitrary matter he does . Sigh .
• Rick submit Michonne and Carl on his supply feed next episode , which means Rick and Michonne finally get some time together , which perchance mean they might finally start develop the relationship they have the cartoon strip . Seeing as TV Michonne has been much more moody than badass , I thirstily await for the telecasting show to give me a cause to give a fuck about this character .
• Merle : “ About trying to kill you . That was just me , followin ’ orders . ”
Michonne , bitter : “ Like the Gestapo . ”
Merle , obliviously pleased : “ on the nose ! ”
