We ’ve been so excited aboutMike Flanagan ’s big - silver screen version of Stephen King ’s Doctor Sleep(aka The Shining sequel ) that we kind of forgot about the director ’s other liberal horror projection . That changed today when Netflix finally remind us about thenew serial The Haunting of Hill House .
We first heard about the serial — a fresh take on the definitive Shirley Jackson ghost story — way back in April 2017 , when Flanagan ( whose other credit include Hush , Oculus , Before I Wake , and Ouija : Origin of Evil ) had just finished another Netflix project , Gerald ’s Game(his first King adaptation ) . Since then , he ’s clearly been very fussy creating , directing , and exec produce the new serial , which reunite Flanagan with Gerald ’s Game stars Carla Gugino and Henry Thomas . The repose of the cast let in Michiel Huisman , Timothy Hutton , and Elizabeth Reaser .
Jackson ’s novel was released back in 1959 , and this new tailspin on the story will update it , though it ’ll also sport elements of the past . PerDeadline :
It explores a mathematical group of siblings who , as child , raise up in what would go on to become the most illustrious obsessed house in the body politic . Now adults , and forced back together in the face of disaster , the family must eventually confront the ghosts of their past times — some of which still linger in their psyche while others may actually be stalking the shadow of Hill House .
